How do you recognize a good towel?

If you've ever wondered which towel is the right one, the answer isn't just about price or color. When it comes to quality, it's all about the material and weight. A good towel should not only be soft, but also sufficiently absorbent and durable. And how do you actually find out?

Let's look at it in order:

The first and most important indicator is the grammage. The grammage of a towel, i.e. the weight of the fabric per unit area (usually in grams per m2), determines its density and absorbency. The higher the grammage, the thicker, more absorbent and better quality the towel is usually. The magic limit for terry cloth fabrics is 450 g/m2. Towels with a higher grammage (roughly 450-600 g/m2) are great for everyday use and quick drying, while towels with a grammage over 700 g/m2 are extra soft and absorbent, which is ideal for after a bath or shower.

Another important feature is the material from which the towel is made. The best towels are often made of cotton, because cotton is soft, natural and absorbs moisture very well. Towels made of cotton are known for their excellent quality. Bamboo fiber towels are also worth mentioning - they have excellent antibacterial properties, are gentle on the skin and are also a more environmentally friendly alternative. Modern Microtech towels can be great for travel and sports due to their lightness and quick drying, but in terms of absorbency and softness, cotton still leads.

We must not forget about the workmanship and quality of the seams, which ensure the long life of the towel. A quality towel should be tightly sewn so that it does not crack after the first use and washing.

To be sure that you are choosing a quality towel, also check the manufacturer's recommendations for maintenance - a good towel should be easy to wash and should still retain its structure and color after several washes. A towel that quickly loses its softness or shape may indicate a lower quality material or poor workmanship.
