Do towels and bath towels bleed color when washed?

Yes, new towels – especially dark or brightly colored ones – may bleed during the first few washes. This is not a defect, but a common occurrence. A larger amount of dye is used during production, which may not be completely washed out during the process.

The residues are then released during washing, especially if the towels are made of natural cotton, which absorbs not only water but also dye well.

How to prevent or reduce this?

To prevent towels from "dying each other" or leaving marks on other laundry, we recommend:

  • First wash separately - wash new towels separately, ideally by color (light colors separately, dark colors separately)
  • Choose a lower temperature (40 °C) and a gentle wash program - hot water can release the dye more
  • No fabric softener - it can disrupt the fiber structure and impair absorbency and color fixation
  • vinegar when rinsing – a small dose of vinegar helps stabilize the color and softens the water
  • use gentle detergents without bleach

With quality terry towels from proven manufacturers, the color bleeding should only be temporary and disappear after a few washes. And if you care about ecology, give bamboo fibers a chance - they are naturally antibacterial, soft, and environmentally friendly.
